Homeschooling a Child with More Severe Learning Struggles
Stephanie Buckwalter

We are excited to announce we are adding a special event for families of children with more severe needs. It will take place the evening before the full conference on Saturday. It is included in the price of the conference.

This event is right for you if:

    • Your child doesn’t read, write or do math
    • Your child is nonverbal or struggles with communication
    • You have tried lots of curriculum and nothing seems to work
    • Your child’s behavior prevents him or her from learning
    • You are transitioning from a public school contained classroom to homeschooling
    • Your child is stuck in perpetual elementary school
    • Your child is two or more years below grade level in core subjects
    • You’ve tried “all the things” and nothing seems to work
    • Weeks or months go by without any forward progress
    • You have an older special needs child and you’re not sure what to do about adulthood

Teaching a child with more severe learning needs is a challenge, but not impossible. The key is understanding that, for the special needs child, learning behaves differently. How many days, weeks or even years have you lost because you simply didn’t know what to do or try next? This workshop will show you how to view your child’s struggles through a developmental lens and teach you how to navigate your child’s learning so you no longer get lost in all the behaviors, meltdowns, refusals, tears, and exhaustion. You’ll be able to place your child on a developmental learning map and clearly see the next step(s) to take, day in and day out.

The things you learn in this workshop apply not only to academics but also to teaching life skills because we are addressing learning issues at their root. You’ll also learn how to prioritize what to teach, especially as your child nears adulthood.

Topics covered:

    • Why curriculum can’t solve your child’s struggles
    • Understanding access to learning
    • How development actually works
    • The learning map
    • Finding your place on the map
    • Becoming a Navigator
    • Five navigation tools
    • God’s plan for your child’s purpose

This event is for homeschoolers and those considering homeschool in the future, including those with less severe learning struggles. Be encouraged. You can homeschool your special needs child!

Water and light snacks included

Meet your instructor: Stephanie Buckwalter is a veteran homeschool mom of five children, including one with more severe learning challenges. She has lived through the challenges of the parents described above and now shares her experience and solutions on how you can rescue your homeschool and your sanity, no matter what the day brings.
