Teaching our children science from a Christian worldview is crucial for several reasons. First, it affirms that we are not mistakes but created with purpose. God invites us into His greater story, and understanding this helps children see their value and significance in the world. When we teach science from a Christian perspective, we emphasize that every individual is intentionally designed by God, reinforcing the truth that nobody is an accident.
Genesis is not a buffet where we pick and choose what we want and leave the rest. It is the foundational truth of our faith, and Jesus Himself was a young earth creationist knowing that the Earth and life were created in six 24-hour periods, 6,000–10,000 years ago. By teaching science from a Christian worldview, we uphold the integrity of Scripture, affirming that the Bible is the ultimate authority on all matters, including the origins of life. This approach helps children understand that theologically, there was no death before sin. Death is a result of sin, not a part of the original creation which God described as good. This distinction is vital as it underscores the gravity of sin and the need for redemption through Jesus Christ.
God’s fingerprints are everywhere, from the delicate wings of a butterfly to the bioluminescence of a deep-sea anglerfish. When children learn science through the lens of a Christian worldview, they are taught to see the evidence of God’s handiwork in all aspects of creation. This perspective fosters a sense of wonder and awe, encouraging children to explore and appreciate the natural world while recognizing the Creator behind it all.
Scientific laws and scripture align in perfect harmony with one another. Nothing in science contradicts scripture. The laws of science created by God describe how the natural world operates, but the laws governing nature themselves cannot create anything out of nothing. For the origins of life and the universe, we must look beyond nature to the Supernatural. This is found in our Lord, who is the ultimate Creator and Sustainer of all things.
Moreover, teaching science from a Christian worldview helps children understand that they are part of a larger narrative. God has a plan and purpose for each of us, and by understanding His creation, we can better understand our role in His story. This approach also combats the secular narrative that life is a random accident, providing children with a firm foundation in the truth that they are fearfully and wonderfully made.
We are all bought with a price, and it is essential to teach children about their need to accept the gift of salvation through King Jesus. By integrating faith and science, we can show children that the study of the natural world is not separate from their faith but an extension of it. This holistic approach helps children develop a cohesive worldview where science and faith are not in conflict but complement each other.
In conclusion, teaching our children science from a Christian worldview is vital for their spiritual and intellectual development. It reinforces the truth that we are created with purpose, upholds the authority of Scripture, and helps children see God’s handiwork in all of creation. By doing so, we equip them to navigate the world with a firm foundation in their faith, understanding their value and purpose in God’s greater story.
